La Maschera Italiana (“The Italian Mask”)

Published September 11, 2010 by ABadKitten

Silver lining and green brush strokes,

dark to light–light to dark.

Add a swirl of imagination into the shapely canvas,

accenting it with dancing black curls that twist magically.

Silver glitter:

“Just a pinch here, a pinch there…”

to catch the majesty the daylight offers!

It’s magical, it’s colorful, it’s unique in its own way.

It’s a mask, a masque, a beautiful display

you use as a front to hide behind.

Perhaps it’s cowardice;

Perhaps it’s fear.

Or maybe it’s your own inclusion in the mysterious dance of the Nameless.

My, oh my.

A few years ago, a friend of mine went to Italy and brought me back the mask pictured below. It’s been sitting on a shelf in my room at which I just happened to glance this morning. Hence, my poetic inspiration.
