Why do men (male animals included) have nipples?

Honestly, why? What the hell is the point? o.o

  • I came across this and thought it is short and to the point. “In a now-famous paper, Stephen Jay Gould and Richard C. Lewontin emphasize that we should not immediately assume that every trait has an adaptive explanation. Just as the spandrels of St. Mark’s domed cathedral in Venice are simply an architectural consequence of the meeting of a vaulted ceiling with its supporting pillars, the presence of nipples in male mammals is a genetic architectural by-product of nipples in females. Also, an interesting book you may be interested in (I haven’t read it but saw an interview with the author a while back. The book is called Why Do Men Have Nipples? Hundreds of Questions You’d Only Ask a Doctor After Your Third Martini.

  • Pacifiers.  My friend is good friends with a couple:  the woman breast-fed and when the baby didn’t need food but was fussy, the man used his as a pacifier.  It work well apparently and they got some good bonding.

  • Some things are pointless. Maybe it is just decorative. Or what I see in my industry, a boiler plate design feature. It is there because every set of prints anyone has ever seen has it. Likely the first architect never even gave it any thought. “I don’t know, that is the way I did it on the girls, I saw no reason to change the spec so’ . . .
